Waterford & District Coarse Angling Club was established in 2002 by anglers in the Waterford area, who saw the need for development and promotion of the excellent coarse angling venues of the region. From a small core of members, the club has grown to in excess of 50 anglers from the region and beyond.

The club is based on open membership, and the membership ranging in age from seven to 78. Neither creed, colour, nor race act as a barrier to membership. This club promotes inclusiveness and tolerance within it's membership and in a wider sense in the sport of angling.

The club runs two annual league competitions, a master angler series and a secondary league competition (The Dudley League). The club has been fortunate to have two hand-crafted perpetual trophies, thanks to the generosity of local artists: Martin Quigley (Master Angler Trophy) and Dudley Snidall (Dudley League Trophy).

The quality and variety of venues in the region are a boon to the club. In co-operation with Oaklands Fishery Management, Cappoquin Salmon & Trout Anglers, Waterways Ireland and the Southern Regional Fisheries Board, we have developed an excellent program of club and open competitions. The Munster Blackwater and the River Barrow offer excellent sport in running and tidal water, while Oaklands Fishery, Ballyshunnock Reservoir, Inniscarra Reservoir and McCabe's Lake provide still water sport.

The club's program of competitions and range of venues, provides angliers with the opportunity to catch the complete selection of coarse species available on the island of Ireland. To date these waters have yielded specimen Rudd, Roach, Hybrids, Bream, Dace, Perch, Pike, Twaite Shad, Carp and Eel. This history of large fish from a wide variety of species emphasises the quality of the coarse angling available in the region.

The club is active in participating in the Munster Inter-Club League series of competitions. In addition, the club organises two open competitions locally, an angling weekend in Wales, and is actively engaged in developing coarse angling at Ballyshunnock Reservoir in Co. Waterford and the River Barrow at St. Mullins, Co. Carlow.
