CURRENT STOCKS
Brown Trout (Salmo Trutta)
-
The reservoirs resident stock of silver-flanked
wild 'brownies' is regularly supplemented with stockings of juvenile
fish.
-
Recent surveys have shown that all trout in the
fishery have well developed teeth, suggesting that they feast on the
enormous shoals of Rudd fry populating the shallows of the lake.
- Although the 'brownies' respond well to maggot, worm and spinner baits,
the committed fly fisher can have excellent sport, with fry imitation,
early morning and evening in the summer months.
Rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus)

- Although they are prominent year-round, from mid-May to early November,
the fishery's extensive Rudd shoals form the staple of the coarse anglers
sport.
- Bags of 70lbs have been reported, the best in-competition bag being
weighed in at 49lbs.
- The 'red-fins' respond to all legitimate methods, with big competition
bags coming from both feeder and whip-fish-to-hand tactics.
- The prefered bait is maggot, fished over a bed of sweetened breadcrumb
groundbait.
However, the larger specimens (approaching 2lbs) have shown a preference
for sweetcorn baits.
Eel (Anguila anguila)

- Although not a common target species (less than effectionately refered
to as 'snotties'), specimens weighing allegedly up to 5lbs have been
remarked from this water.
- Anglers targetting Eels are advised to fish after dark, with legered
fish baits or whole lobworm.
Bream (Abramis abramis)

- Stocking commenced in the second half of 2007.
Tench (Tinca tinca)

- Stocking commenced in the second half of 2007.
Rudd / Bream Hybrid

- Stocks added in late 2007.
Perch (Perca fluaviatilis)

- Proposed for stocking.
